Native grasses perform and look much better if you can trim them at least once per year, but avoid trimming in the Summer months. If they look untidy, trim native grasses hard, leaving only a little foliage untrimmed. Most require no irrigation once established, except for desert type inland areas, or summer drought prone areas like Perth, where some irrigation is required.
In most other areas, they will do well without irrigation. However, in times of bad drought occasional hand watering will result in better looking longer lived plants. Mingo may require a little more summer watering than the others to look its best. We are, however, only talking about on average one water per month in summer. It is so beautiful, the extra work is worth it.
Mulching with a chunky type mulch similar to hardwood chip is recommended for native grass landscapes.
