Silver Streak™
Dianella hybrid
Featuring Delicate Blue Foliage
Best suited for tropical areas, including North Queensland, and coastal WA. In Sydney to Brisbane, use in coastal areas unlikely to get frost.
Description
Silver Streak will provide year round colour, form and contrast for hotter humid areas, with little frost. Its attractive grey-green leaves with contrasting white stripes makes this plant a wonderful addition to the garden. It is particularly well suited to brightening up dull spots.
Silver Streak has a neat clumping habit, with broad strappy foliage. An additional feature is the delicate blue foliage which are produced on fine stems above the foliage.
Uses
Ideal for mass planting in garden beds and borders. Will tolerate exposed and windy positions. Silver streak is drought tolerant, but is frost tender. It will only tolerate light frost.
Position
Grows well in full sun to shaded positions. Performs well heavy clay or free draining soils. Best suited to warmer climates. Avoid in areas that even get mild frosts.
Care
Occasionally fertilise with a slow release fertiliser. Be careful, as it can get rust in cooler regions.
It is thought that this plant may have orginated from an island or country just north of Australia, so it is not a native, but it is a sterile plant.
Warning
For warmer environments. Not Recommended for frost affected areas. For areas that are frost effected, our new Wyeena, a variegated Dianella tasmanica will be ideal.
