YALBA™ Imperata has longer lasting fluffy plumes
YALBA™ Imperata cylindrica
Yalba™ Imperata has reddish foliage in Autumn and Winter with green foliage in the warmer months. Yalba™ Imperata has more prolific, longer lasting fluffy plumes, regularly for up to 4-5 months from April to August (if mown or slashed to the ground in Feb-Mar). It has an approx. 100cm spread.
Yalba™ Imperata is a compact form, only growing to 40cm in height, which is 30-40% shorter than the common form. It locks up more carbon in the soil than most grasses.
Ideal for areas that need a quick native ground cover, such as median strips, roadsides, slopes and other mass planted areas.
It is best to plant as a monoculture, as it will spread.
Full sun or part shade. It tolerates most soil types, including very poor soils. Extremely drought and frost tolerant.
Low to no maintenance. Not suited to garden planting. Use in sandy to heavy clay soils.
To achieve masses of white feathery plumes, trim or slash yearly around late Febuary to March each year.
Great erosion control
Yalba™ Imperata has been proven to strengthen the soil 5.45 times, compared to the common form which strengthens the soil 4.94 times. Its deep rhizomes make it drought tough and its vigor helps it out-compete weeds.
