Lomandra contertifolia 'SIR5'

PBR

Looks Like Grass, but Needs No Trimming

WingarraPlease note that this Lomandra is suitable for most Australian climate zones.

Uses
Wingarra Mass planting. Foliage or grassy garden. Accent or border plant.

Position
Tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Full sun to part shade. Very hardy, excellent drought and frost tolerance.

Care
Plant in well mulched garden. Fertilise once per year with a slow release fertiliser. Trim every 3-4 years to remove older leaves.

WingarraThis tough little Lomandra has a very fine texture, which from a distance gives it the appearance of a Native Tussock Grass (Poa labillardieri). Unlike Poa, this plant will generally not need trimming. Its blue appearance provides a nice contrast to other plants. Wingarra is slightly slower to establish than other Lomandras, so in cooler climates, larger size pots are helpful. In warmer climates, more options are available. Check with your local grower.

Wingarra grows to approximately 300mm in height with a spread of 300mm. It is drought and frost tolerant. It needs much less trimming, and is much less likely to brown off in summer and winter.

Wingarra No Irrigation required once established in most populated areas of Australia. Water well for the first 12 weeks until established. Wingarra is an Australian native and is often used on roadside plantings, where it performs and looks great, with no irrigation only natural rainfall. In extra dry climates such as Perth or desert areas, occasional top up watering's may be required in the warmer months. Increased irrigation frequency will not adversely affect Wingarra. In severe drought occasional top up watering will result in more beautiful plants, and in 1 in 100 year droughts occasional watering may be required.

  1. Suitable for most Australian climate zones.
  2. Looks like a blue Tussock grass, but isn't.
  3. It's a strappy leaf plant that needs much less trimming.
  4. Much less likely to brown off in winter.
  5. The almost no care grassy plant.
  6. Low growing, only 30cm average maximum height.
  7. Higher planting rates are required for mass planting, as this is slower to establish than Lomandra longifolias.
