Straightup™ Hibbertia scandens ‘HBS02’ PBR Intended

  • Specialist climbing or shrub-like form of Hibbertia scandens
  • Distinctive purple foliage in winter, offering unique ornamental appeal
  • Highly drought-tolerant and resilient against heat, humidity, and moderate frosts

Straightup™ Hibbertia produces bright yellow flowers, adding a splash of colour to your garden during the blooming season.

Straightup™ Hibbertia is a specialist climbing or shrub-like form of Hibbertia scandens. During winter, it often has purple foliage through its leaves, vastly setting it apart from other forms of this popular coastal plant.

Although Straightup™ is a climber, it still has a dense, slightly more compact form, reaching up to 2 meters tall with support. Its distinct form makes it easier to use correctly in landscape designs. Ideal for trellises, fences, or stakes, this hardy plant can be pruned annually to maintain a small shrub form.

  • Size: Up to 2 metres tall when supported.
  • Planting Density: 1-2 plants per square metre for ground cover; 3-4 plants per linear metre for climbing.
  • Uses: Ideal for residential and commercial landscapes, as a ground cover or climber. Perfect for cottage and native gardens.
  • Species: Hibbertia scandens
  • Position: Thrives in full sun to part shade; enjoys sandy soils, coastal areas, and can tolerate salt-laden winds. Handles moderate frosts and periodic wet feet.
  • Care: Water as needed for 8-13 weeks until established. Prune yearly for a tidy look or every 2 years if used as a climber. Use chunky mulch and ensure the crown is not below the soil level. Apply slow-release fertiliser in spring if required.
  • Where it works: Suitable for ACT, VIC, SA, WA, TAS, NSW (particularly Richmond), and QLD.
  • Flowers: Beautiful yellow flowers that enhance its ornamental appeal.
